3D Systems has been on a role as of late in terms of acquisitions. They have been gobbling up 3D printing related companies across all industries. This morning they announced the acquisition of yet another interesting company, Medical Modeling Inc.
Medical Modeling Inc. is a leading provider of personalized surgical treatments, as well as patient specific medical devices. Located in Golden Colorado, the company has been a pioneer in the field of 3d printing customized medical devices. They are known for their FDA-cleared manufacturing processes, as well as experience in helping tens of thousands of patients, with their patient specific products.

3D systems plans to consolidate all their health related activities under one department which will be led by former Medical Modeling President, Andy Christensen, who will be given the title, “3DS’ Vice President, Personalized Surgery and Medical Devices.” The acquisition will instantly put 3D systems in the middle of the 3D printing healthcare market, allowing the company to continue to expand their scope within the industry. As companies like Hewlett Packard consider entering the market, 3D Systems clearly sees this as an opportunity to get a leg up on the possible future competition they may face.
