This 3D Printed ‘Joker’ Mask Will Scare the Bejesus Out of You!

I’ve been covering the 3D printing space for close to two years now, and one artist has come to my attention over and over again during this time period. His name is Stefanos Anagnostopoulos, and if you think his name is extraordinary, wait until you see his 3D printed creations. If you follow our site, you would have read several stories concerning Anagnostopoulos, as it seems as though every month he is releasing yet another amazing project via MyMiniFactory. Whether it be his 3D printed ‘Gorilla Ghost Mask‘, his Wildling Skull from ‘Game of Thrones’, or his amazing Ant-Man Helmet, he has certainly caught the attention of 3D printing fanatics and movie lovers everywhere.

This is why it comes as no surprise to us that Anagnostopoulos has done it again, this time with his ridiculously scary ‘Joker’ mask; one that could put fear into anyone, from your grandmother to the Dark Knight himself.

“I was thinking of making something out of the DC Comics and for me the only thing that comes to mind first is Batman Universe, but I always like the bad guys,” Anagnostopoulos tells 3DPrint.com. “I was looking at this comic my brother has, called ‘Batman Death of the Family’ and I love what they did with the Joker, so I gathered some pictures from the comic and the next day I started modeling the face.”

The mask was designed and sculpted using only Zbrush. It is based on a scene from the comic where the Joker proceeds to peel off his own skin. It took Anagnostopoulos just 2 days to make the face look exactly like what he had in mind.

“I used some skin alphas from Zbrush to make the face a bit organic,” he tells us. “When I reached the amount of details [I wanted] I remeshed the model so I could continue putting more details in by dividing it and editing more. I loved using the slash3 brush in Zbrush to make the skin look more wrinkly and stretched.”

Anagnostopoulos then broke the model down into 6 separate 3D printable pieces, using Rhino3D. It took him about 30 hours of print time to completely print out all of the mask. Once it was printed, with the help of his friend Catherine Wood, he glued the pieces together, filled the gaps with plastic filler and then base coated it with white acrylic primer. Once primed, it was painted using acrylic paints and then sealed with matte and gloss varnishes.

We asked Anagnostopoulos what his plans are for this unique mask. His answer?

“Scaring people at the pub next door!!”

I certainly wouldn’t want to be at that pub when a man in this mask walks in! The design files for this creepy mask can be downloaded for free at MyMiniFactory.com.
